Sutra 1.36

viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī

Or when experiencing thoughts that are luminous and free of sorrow.

Viśokā: "Vi" means "without," and "śoka" means "sorrow" or "grief." Viśokā, therefore, translates to "without sorrow" or "free from grief." Vā: "Vā" is a conjunction in Sanskrit that can be translated as "or." It presents an alternative or possibility. Jyotiṣmatī: "Jyotiṣ" means "light" or "luminous," and "matī" means "having" or "possessing." So, Jyotiṣmatī signifies "having light" or "luminous." When put together, "Viśokā Vā Jyotiṣmatī" can be interpreted as "having thoughts that are luminous and free of sorrow" or "experiencing a mind that is filled with radiant and blissful thoughts." This sutra emphasises the importance of cultivating a clear and positive mindset. By experiencing thoughts that are luminous and free of sorrow, you’ll be aligned with your true nature and higher consciousness.
